Surgeries for Haringey Tenants in Waltham Cross

Homes for Haringey has introduced new weekly information ‘surgeries’ for approximately 100 Haringey Council tenants based in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire. As part of the partnership with Broxbourne Council, these local tenants who are not able to visit Homes for Haringey’s offices in Tottenham,  now have the chance to access services closer to where they live.  Weekly surgeries take place on Mondays between 10am and 1pm at the Broxbourne Council One Stop Shop in Waltham Cross.  A tenancy management officer from Homes for Haringey will be on hand providing advice and the latest information to Haringey tenants who visit the surgeries.Rachel Hawley, Head of Tenancy Management North, said:  “Homes for Haringey are very pleased to be working in partnership with Broxbourne Council and offering almost 100 Haringey Council tenants living locally in Broxbourne, easier access to their tenancy management service.  We hope tenants will drop in to the one stop shop and try the surgery service out.”Leader of Broxbourne Council, Councillor Ken Ayling added: ‘The Council is committed to making services as accessible as possible for residents.  I am pleased that by working in partnership with Homes for Haringey, we are able to make it easier for Broxbourne residents to discuss any housing issues that they might have, without having to travel into London.’  The 90 properties in Waltham Cross have been owned by Haringey Council for 40 years. In 2001 tenants voted against their homes being transferred to a housing association – they wanted to stay with Haringey. The two and three bedroomed properties, managed by Homes for Haringey on behalf of Haringey Council, are based in a small cul-de-sac estate close to the One Stop Shop.  A Tenancy Management officer from Homes for Haringey also visits the estate once a week and sees tenants as required.  The new weekly surgeries were introduced following  a boroughwide ‘door knocking’ survey carried out by Homes for Haringey staff in March last year. The ultimate aim was to contact all 21,000 homes managed by Homes for Haringey on behalf of Haringey Council, by knocking on doors and doing a quick survey. Over 600 staff took part and over 4800 residents responded. As part of the feedback, Waltham Cross tenants requested the weekly surgery.
