Hackney smokers are invited to meet their quitting goals through a new price promotion campaign run by NHS City and Hackney and Boots.
The promotion is available throughout January at the 3 Boots stores across Hackney (Dalston, Stamford Hill and Hackney). Public who sign-up for the in-store NHS stop smoking service will have access to free stop smoking medication such as nicotine replacement therapy, as well as support. Smoking prevalence in Hackney is 19%, based on data gathered from GPs. The campaign strategy follows research into the motivations of Hackney smokers, which indicated that price promotion was an effective strategy. “Research shows that price can be a barrier to quitting for some smokers,” says NHS City and Hackney Director of Public Health Lesley Mountford. “We hope that this month-long price promotion will make quitting that little bit easier, as well as introducing local residents and workers to the stop smoking support services available in the Hackney.”
The overall aims of the price promotion campaign are to: Achieve a 50% success rate with those who sign-up to reach 4-week quit status Increase the awareness that Boots UK provide local stop smoking services
Increase the number of people who try to quit smoking. Provide information about the dangers of smoking and what is available to help those who want to stop It’s backed up by a Hackney-wide street recruitment drive, with Stop Smoking teams taking to the streets in Dalston and Hackney Central through to late January. Anyone registering an interest is contacted within 48 hours and booked into one of the many stop smoking clinics running throughout the borough. A further bonus for those who reach the 4-week quitting stage comes in the form of a £20 gift voucher. The Hackney street recruitment will be repeated over two weeks in late February.
