Acclaimed Muslim street artist Mohammed Ali and Islamic Bank of Britain forge together to connect communities through live graffiti-art and poetry. In a unique partnership of the Banking and Arts world, Islamic Bank of Britain (IBB,
www.islamic-bank.com) and renowned Muslim artist and South Bank Show Award winner Mohammed Ali, aka Aerosol Arabic, last week delighted audiences at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre with his latest project which brought aerosol art and the spoken word together. The event, a complete sell-out, saw internationally recognised poets alongside the Birmingham-born artist for a one-night-only performance called the ‘Writing on the Wall’. The Islamic Bank of Britain was the lead sponsor, and the only private sector organisation supporting the event.
“’Writing on the Wall’
Sultan Choudhury, commercial director at IBB commented, “’Writing on the Wall’ was a fantastic event and IBB congratulates Mohammed Ali on his excellent achievement. Mohammed and IBB share the objective of connecting communities which he achieves impeccably through his inspiring visual art. Similarly IBB, as a Sharia compliant bank, takes social responsibility very seriously and was keen to be involved in the event. IBB and Mohammed Ali are both considered pioneers in their respective fields, making the partnership a natural one based on the shared vision to break down barriers and reach our audiences through exciting and innovative ways.” Mohammed Ali has established himself in the field of faith and the arts for the past decade. He has worked alongside various communities to inspire residents through exciting visual arts, promoting global concepts and ideals. The aim of his work is to not only express his own ideas through an aerosol can, but also connect communities. As well as numerous commissions around the world – including Sydney, New York and Kuala Lumpur – Mohammed recently won an award in the hugely respected ITV Southbank Show Awards. He is now developing his wall-based artwork, which has received media recognition across the world including CNN, BBC Newsnight, Aljazeera and Reuters.
